FPGAs are fun!: "'Dragon' FPGA board
Feb 27th 2004 - The board is available for sale in limited quantities (go to the shop for the latest pictures).
This is the lastest board on this site. Dragon has the following characteristics:
Based on Xilinx's Spartan-II XC2S100TQ144.
PCI/USB/I2C/JTAG interfaces
8051 microcontroller (on the back of the board). Use of the 8051 is optional. When in use, the 8051 and FPGA can communicate through an 8-bits synchronous bidirectional bus.
Prototyping area/which can accomodate two RJ-45 Ethernet connectors
Top and bottom SIL connectors - can plug into a wide 'solderless-breadboards' for experiments.
Has a dual-row connectors, so can be used as motherboard for other projects.
Two onboard clocks: a fixed 24MHz clock, plus a socketed 3.3V DIL-8 oscillator.
Top IOs are configured to accept LCD text modules; option to accept a graphical LCD panel (in development).
100% plug'n play, i.e. you can download the FPGA and the 8051 from the PC (through the USB). Doing both takes less than 1 second. "
